In the heart of Hamburg's "Schanzenherz" (dance district), people have been partying, swinging and flirting for six decades. The good karma has remained, and the name Witwenball evokes memories of the former dance hall of the same name that opened 100 years ago. Today, Julia and Axel Bode invite all fans of authentic and natural wines to the table. Instead of mourning (or merry) widows, a society meets here that appreciates the stylish interior with its large marble counter, modern chandeliers, lots of wood and inviting dark green upholstery, in addition to the selection from many open wines and 400 bottled wines.
The kitchen stands for seasonal, aroma-strong German-French dishes, in the best craftsmanship. The prerequisite for this is perfect products, freshly prepared with a lot of passion. A 4-course "Your Choice" menu can be put together from the menu according to your own taste.
In summer, the large outdoor terrace invites you to linger and, at late hours, the bar in the middle of the restaurant, where you can enjoy an excellent homemade cocktail from the menu, which is well put together by the bar manager and includes some cocktails he has created himself.
Must-do: Ask patron and sommelier Axel Bode for one of his new wine discoveries outside the menu - he is always good for a surprise.
