The Teatro Dimitri in Verscio, located in the unique landscape of the Terre di Pedemonte in the Locarno region, was founded in 1971 by the clown Dimitri and his wife Gunda. It is traditionally dedicated to the art of clowning, non-verbal theatre and burlesque theatre. Today it combines both the artistic tradition of its origins and a dynamic cultural offer with its finger on the pulse of the times.
We focus on the authenticity of a naturally grown place, on excellence and uniqueness and develop new perspectives. This is reflected in a series of diverse performances with outstanding regional and international artists.
The programme includes contemporary theatre, dance, music, theatre for families and children and themed festivals, complemented by performances by the Dimitri family and students and alumni of the Accademia Dimitri, one of Switzerland's four university theatre colleges.
The Teatro aims to be not only a place to see the best and finest in the performing arts, but also an inspiring meeting place where people share experiences, engage in discussions - surrounded by the natural beauty of Ticino. The premises of the Teatro and the Accademia offer three stages, an outdoor stage in the park and a cosy restaurant.
A high quality cultural programme in an intimate and lively atmosphere - this is what the Teatro Dimitri has in store for its audience.
