Schloss Schönbrunn Orangerie

In the Baroque period, the orangery was not only used as a repository for rare and exotic plants, but also as an important part of the courtly festive culture. Built after the middle of the 18th century, the Orangery served as a venue for numerous receptions, festivities and theatre performances under Joseph II. It was here that the famous musical contest between Wolfgang A. Mozart and Antonio Salieri took place here, and the Congress of Vienna danced here. The plants in the Orangery, as well as the Orangery Garden designed as an ornamental and kitchen garden, were important elements in the staging of these events.

In keeping with this tradition, the Orangery offers an imposing setting for your events. Impress your guests with the direct connection between the Orangery Garden and the banqueting hall. For large-scale events, the combination of the Orangery and the directly adjoining rooms in the Apothecary Wing is ideal.
