Our listed building and especially the cellars could tell a long story. In the past, before 1717, there were vineyards with a wine cellar here, owned by Jacob Daniel Tepser, Mayor of Vienna. In 1717, the vineyard was sold to the imperial court and Empress Amalie Wilhelmina built a monastery with an adjoining widow's residence. The foundation stone of the monastery was laid on 13 May 1717 and the Italian Felice d'Allio was commissioned to build it. The Salm Bräu is located next to Belvedere Palace, the former residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663 - 1736). Today's Georgsaal used to serve as a stable for the empress's carriage horses. In 1994, the O. Salm & Co. company opened the brewery-restaurant in the former economic wing of that part of the convent of the Salesian nuns which was also inhabited by the founder Empress Wilhelmina Amalia.
