Restaurant, institution and a house where seafaring has been shaped as in hardly any other place.
The history of this place has lost none of its significance over the centuries due to the foresight and skillful actions of the brotherhood of captains, the owners of the Schiffergesellschaft. For nearly 150 years, the Schiffergesellschaft building has been open to the public as a restaurant and we, as tenants, operate our restaurant in keeping with the legacy of the centuries. There is a simple rule here: anything older than ourselves is not touched, but lovingly guarded.
Our guests who want to taste some of the historical flair can sit on long banquettes - where seafarers and their families have dined, crews have celebrated their return from long voyages and businessmen have made their plans and negotiated with each other over a meal. To sit in the great hall is to become part of history. But of course it can also be more comfortable: in the Hanseatic Lübeck Room or fresher: on the sun deck, our garden.
The food is not quite so historic. Neither is there meat from the brine nor does the soot have to be scraped off the potato, but it continues in the tradition of the forefathers. Today this means sustainable farming. In the spirit of environmental sustainability, we buy primarily regionally and from suppliers we know personally. Our restaurant has a modern kitchen, where traditional dishes and much of the young cuisine are prepared. If you like you can have a burger with a meatball made of dry-aged beef or order a lobster. A special highlight is our steak from the Southbend Grill. The good old classics, such as Labskaus, are of course always a must. We are happy to cater to your individual wishes and create an event that will remain in your pleasant memory.
What drives us as a team of the Schiffergesellschaft is the striving to make it a little better every day, so that in 100 years today will have become a part of history that can be looked back on with pride.
