Fascination between wax and reality
A selfie with pop star Adele, the Queen and Angela Merkel? That's not possible! There is - at the Panoptikum in Hamburg. This is where visitors meet the most dazzling celebrity flat-sharing community in Germany. The Panoptikum in Hamburg on St. Pauli was founded in 1879 and is therefore the oldest waxworks cabinet in Germany. The Faerber family, now in its fifth generation, continues this tradition to this day - with dedication, care and attention to detail. Because: the resemblance to the original is no coincidence. It is true art.
Visitors experience this very special art on over 700 m² of exhibition space. The Panoptikum is a fascinating world made of wax, in which reality and fantasy merge together. More than 120 personalities from art and culture, sport and politics, society and history are currently on display - including many celebrities and real megastars. And the best part: The stars and starlets are not at all photophobic and wait patiently for the souvenir photo of the private paparazzi. Photography is expressly permitted in the exhibition, after all selfies with the wax figures are part of every visit to the Panoptikum!
In addition to current personalities such as presenter Barbara Schöneberger, who moved into the Wax Museum to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Panoptikum in 2019, singer Helene Fischer, US President Donald Trump and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, the exhibition also features local celebrities such as Olivia Jones and Udo Lindenberg and historical figures such as Henry VIII, Albert Einstein and Friedrich von Schiller. A horror scene and a medical-anatomical cabinet complete the collection.
