The Musée Visionnaire offers a platform to artists who are often overlooked and fall through the cracks of established art categories. Passion and the unconditional drive for creativity are their driving force. This out-of-the-box thinking is not only reflected in the art, but also transfers to the visitors. Together, we think outside the box, question our own perspective, and adopt other points of view. By including Outsider Art in the museum context, we open the dialogue to a broader understanding of art.
In the legendary premises, built in 1968 by the architect couple Trix and Robert Haussmann, we show two temporary exhibitions per year. Whenever possible, we try to bring art by people who move outside the established art context into dialogue with works by established artists. The connection to Zurich also plays a central role in the choice of artists, although we also repeatedly put out feelers beyond the cantonal and national borders to present unknown treasures in the heart of Niederdorf.
