History of the MS Rhein: The largest moving ship in the Spree steamer fleet was launched in Grünheide in 1925. The ship was designed to transport water from the Alt Buchholzer mineral spring to the north, which had been developed shortly before. However, the business did not bring the desired success, so that the Rhine was finally sold to another shipping company. At that time still an open saloon, it was lowered somewhat for passenger trips and covered with windows. It wasn't until 2014 that the ship came to Berlin and has been sailing the local waters under the name MS Rhein ever since.
