Kreuzberg's rock-indie-electro-pop living room couch is located in the centre of Wrangelkiez.
History is being made. In the 1950s and 60s, Schlesische Straße was Kreuzberg's cinema-goers' street par excellence. East Berliners who wanted to see western films couldn't avoid the LIDO. In the 70s, the establishment, then called "Westside", was a trendsetter in rock'n'roll.
But everything has its time and in the exciting 80s, the charming house with the round corners needed a little time out and served as a rehearsal space for the Berlin Schaubühne theatre.
A few years ago, the current owners thought enough idleness was enough and revitalised the old property. The doors were finally reopened in May 2006. Since then, LIDO has been one of the most important and trendy clubs in the city, especially in Kreuzberg, of course.
Maximo Park, Cocorosie, Sportfreunde Stiller and the Beatsteaks have already been great and satisfied guests of the house.
The walls of the LIDO can tell so many stories; always in style.
