The ALTE WEBEREI cultural centre sees itself as a socio-cultural institution in the Lower Saxon town of Nordhorn just before the Dutch border.
The programme includes music concerts, cabaret evenings, theatre performances and parties, and market and trade fair organisers also find a home in the listed rooms. In addition, public lectures and receptions as well as offers in the field of cultural education enrich the programme. Our halls can be rented for your own events (e.g. company and family celebrations, weddings, etc.).
Until well into the 20th century, the weaving mill belonged to the Ludwig Povel & Co. company, which, together with the NINO and Rawe companies, was one of the leading textile groups in Nordhorn. After the company went bankrupt in 1978, around one thousand textile workers were made redundant and almost all the factory buildings were demolished. Only three buildings were spared: the administration building, the spinning tower and the new weaving mill built in 1949, which was converted into the "ALTE WEBEREI" cultural centre in the 1990s with funding from the EUREGIO and the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Soziokultur (LAGS).
