Modern Indian restaurant in Mainz - Augustinerstraße
Our Indian restaurant is located in the heart of Mainz's lively old town district and depicts the north-west of India: the desert region of Rajasthan. We take you on an adventurous, folkloristic and multi-faceted journey!
In Mainz, our guests immerse themselves in a world full of sandy nuances. The inviting atmosphere of the dining room is characterised by sandstone and brick walls that are reminiscent of Rajasthani architecture and transport you to a picturesque house façade that stretches impressively along the back wall of the restaurant. The bar between the kitchen and dining room is reminiscent of a lively market stall with its roof made from a lorry tarpaulin. A bright ‘Namaste’ awaits you as a warm welcome when you enter our restaurant.
Rajasthan is not only known for its extraordinary desert landscape, but also for its colourful architecture. Emblematic of Jaipur & Jodhpur, you can take a short trip to the world-famous Pink & Blue City at our restaurant in Mainz. Jodhpur was once the capital of the Rajput and later princely state of Marwar. Jodhpur is also known as the ‘Blue City’ because of the colour of its houses. Traditionally, the colour blue indicated that the inhabitants belonged to the Brahmin caste, but today non-Brahmins have also adopted this custom. Jaipur is now the capital of Rajasthan and is also known as the ‘Pink City’ due to the uniform pink colour of the buildings in the old city district. It was painted pink in 1876 in preparation for the visit of Crown Prince Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. Pink is Rajasthan's traditional colour of hospitality.
