What sustainability initiatives does the venue implement?
Finnlines' combined freight and passenger ferries transport important goods such as food, furniture, medicines and vehicles across the Baltic Sea every day. With our ferries, passengers use a means of transport that is already in use for freight transport and thus travel in a particularly sustainable way.
Finnlines was awarded the "Sustainable Travel Finland" label by Visit Finland in 2021. The Sustainable Travel Finland programme provides travel industry operators with tools to develop sustainable tourism. A travel company must go through a 7-step STF programme to receive the label. The programme is free of charge, but requires a lot of commitment and long-term effort. Companies must commit to the core principles of Sustainable Travel Finland and take transparent measures to minimise negative impacts on the planet, people and society.
Protecting the environment is an important part of Finnlines' daily work. Our long-term strategy has already led to remarkable results. Compared to 2008, we have already reduced the emissions of our fleet by 30 per cent.
