The modern Bavarian inn at the Giessen train station: In addition to fresh Benedictine beers and Bavarian classics, the Bräuhaus offers large event rooms with an experiential character.
Our historic building was erected in 1863 as the Imperial Post Office of the Princely Thurn and Taxis Postal Administration in the south of the city of Giessen on the Seltersberg. After the Federal Post Office moved into a new building across the street in 1994, the building fell more and more into disrepair because no one was using the ensemble, popularly known as the "Old Post Office" in Giessen. Under private ownership, renovations began in April 2019 and the Benediktiner Weissbräuhaus moved into its new home. The opening took place in November 2020.
We spoil our guests with a mix of Bavarian inn tradition and an urban all-day concept. On offer are not only Benedictine beers, but also freshly interpreted classics of inn cuisine and home cooking at a high level.
Our Bavarian delicacies, fresh salads, homemade burgers and trendy vegetarian and vegan dishes almost exclusively use regional ingredients of high quality. In our own bakery in the Brauschänke, in addition to sourdough breads, pretzels and fresh sheet cakes are made fresh daily and by hand.
The rooms of our Benediktiner Weissbräuhaus combine traditional Bavarian elements with modern influences. Oak, beech and native conifers harmonize with industrial elements such as steel and glass.
In addition to the Brauschänke, the Klosterstube, the Alpenstüberl and the Benediktiner Saal, the house includes a city beer garden and terrace, the in-house bakery and the Holzfass beer warehouse. We have 300 seats inside and about 170 seats outside. The total area of the restaurant is over 730 square meters.
